Tigers By: Timothy Brown

The tiger is a part of the cat family and is the biggest.

Tigers can weigh as much as 600 pounds and reach 11 feet in length. There are many types of tigers and they are the Sumatran tiger, Siberian tiger, Bengal tiger, South China tiger, Malayan tiger, and the Indochinese tiger. About half of tiger cubs don't live past two years old. Cubs leave their mother when they turn two. A group of tigers is called an ambush or a streak. Tigers can swim 6 km. A lot of the subspecies of tigers are either endangered or extinct. This is because of their habitats getting destroyed and humans hunting them. Tigers most of the time hunt alone at night. Tigers can reach up to 40 mph. Tigers can jump over 5 metres in length. Tigers are carnivores meaning they only eat meat. They mainly eat deer, wild pigs, antelope, and buffalo.

Every tiger has different stripes. Archaeologists have found fossils from more than 2 million years ago. Four species of tigers are extinct. The largest species of tiger is the Bengal tiger with less than 2,000 of them. Tigers can usually be found in tropical forests, grasslands, savannas, and rocky countries. Tigers can live up to 26 years in the wild. Tigers can live up to 22 years in captivity or a zoo but usually 15 to 16 years.
