How Nuclear Power Might be the Solution of the Energy Crisis. By Rudy

OK, lets get this out of the way first. Nuclear power is extremely powerful. For example, if the R. E. Ginna reactor runs at 582 MW capacity for 24 hours, it'll generate 13,968 megawatt hours. To put into perspective, one megawatt can power 100 homes!

Of course, this wouldn't be a post about nuclear power without mentioning Chernobyl. "The Chernobyl disaster, also referred to as the Chernobyl accident, was a catastrophic nuclear accident that occurred on 25–26 April 1986 in the No. 4 nuclear reactor of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, near the now-abandoned town of Pripyat, in northern Soviet Ukraine"(Wikipedia). It is one of the most popular nuclear accidents on earth, and it illustrates the dangers of nuclear power.

Nuclear power, while it is dangerous, is one of the most environment friendly source of energy. It is, of course, costly (one kilogram of uranium 235 costs $15,000,000) but it is so useful, that countries around the world are beginning to use nuclear power.
