Athletes Should Stand For The National Anthem:Madeline Giberson

In 2016 Colin Kaepernick, a NFL quarterback started a protest by kneeling during ''The Star-Spangled Banner''. Ever since, there have been hundreds of protests. These people are doing this because they are wanting to be defiant of President Trump, and for black rights. This is not right. There are millions of people in our country's armed forces that are willing to put their life on the line for the citizens of this country. This kind of protest is very disrespectful to them and for the people that have died protecting America's freedom.

The U.S. Flag Code Section 301 states,''all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart''. Unfortunately, if the Flag Code is broken law enforcement cannot do anything. But the NFL can suspend, fire, and fine players over this topic. The NFL has chosen not to set any rules on the matter. That is why this issue is spreading. This issue has spread all the way to the White House, where President Trump has spoken on the matter. He disapproves of the way the NFL is handling the situation. He thinks that athletes doing this is very disrespectful.

This problem needs to be solved. People that are being disrespectful to our country should not get away with it. This is my opinion on the National Anthem crisis.
