Welcome to the world of dolphins. They're funny, cute, athletic, and extremely friendly. Dolphins are warm blooded. There are 75 species of dolphins living in the ocean. Dolphins are one of the smartest animals in the world. Dolphins usually stick together as groups. Dolphins are very similar to humans and can take cares of the baby just like what we do ourselves. Dolphins don't need to drink like we do. Dolphins eat a variety of prey including fish, squid and crab. Dolphins have 2 stomachs. Dolphins can live up to 50 years! If you are sick or injured a dolphin will most likely help you. Dolphins are meat eaters (carnivores). The most common type of dolphins are bottle nose dolphins.

Dolphins can see with sound. This allows them to know how far away the object is. Dolphins must tell themselves when to breathe; it's not an automatic response like it is for humans. Dolphins are great divers. They can dive up to 1,000 feet underwater. According to "Today I found Out" The name "dolphin" comes from the Greek words "delphis" and "delphus," meaning "fish with a womb" There are around 40 species of dolphins swimming in the ocean today! Dolphins don't chew with their teeth. Dolphins have the longest memory in the animal kingdom. Dolphins have no sense of smell, and do not have a good sense of taste. Dolphins can use their noses to kill sharks. The longest a dolphin can travel is 60 miles.

When a dolphin sleeps they are resting one side of their brain. Dolphins are playful and curious animals. You cannot legally own a dolphin. A dolphin breathes by the blowhole on the top of their head. Dolphins make weird noises with each other because they are communicating.
